How to Make Your AirPods Fit Better Into Your Gaping Earholes

How to Make Your AirPods Fit Better Into Your Gaping Earholes

I love my AirPods Pro. They block out intrusive sounds, they sound great, and they don’t fit in my ears. OK, that last point is a drawback to be sure, but if you’re in the same boat, you should know it doesn’t have to be this way.

Apple uses silicone tips for the AirPods Pro. The company, anticipating different ear sizes, offers three different size tips as well, which is pretty standard for any earbuds with interchangeable tips. The problem is, I can’t seem to get a good enough seal with any of them. Small, medium, and even large all seem to work at first, but as I move, talk, or just sit there, they slowly start to loosen.

To be clear, my AirPods Pro aren’t regularly falling out of my ears, but anyone who uses them knows that their appeal really comes from having that tight seal. When you lose that, it’s just not the most comfortable listening experience.

As it turns out, I’m not alone. A lot of people have trouble with the fit of the standard silicone tips of the AirPods Pro, while others have issues with the one-size-fits-all regular AirPods. But instead of living with the issue, there’s something they — and you — can do to solve it.

Introducing: the foam tip

Instead of use silicone to connect AirPods Pros to your ears, try using foam. These tips work just like the silicone ones do — they’re interchangeable and connect right to the open part of your earbuds. But foam has one advantage over silicone for those of us with oddly-shaped ear canals: They’re moldable.

Foam tips don’t just stick in your ears, only to lose their hold if your ear isn’t the right shape — they shape themselves to fit the space they’re in, creating a true seal and staying in place longer than silicone tips will.

Plus, because they’re cushy, some people find them to be more comfortable for long-term listening.

Which foam AirPods Pro tips should I get?

If you do a search for AirPods Pro foam tips on Amazon, you’ll discover an assortment of options to choose from. However, there is one brand that pops up over and over again in fan recommendations — Comply. The company makes foam tips for not just AirPods Pro, but regular AirPods, Beats, Skullcandy, and more. Long story short, they know what they’re doing.

Comply’s AirPods Pro offerings come in packs of three for small, medium, large, or assorted, if you want one of each size. All options ring in at $US24.99 ($34).

AirPods are another story

If you’re looking for foam tips for your AirPods, it’s a bit different. Since AirPods don’t have interchangeable tips, Comply had to design an attachment that connects the foam to your AirPods. The upshot is that you get the comfort of foam while listening to your AirPods, but you can’t charge them with the tips on.

If that works for you, you have your option of small for $US17.99 ($24), medium for $US23.00 ($31), or large for $US17.49 ($24).
