How to Share a Podcast Episode From a Specific Timestamp So Your Friend Will Actually Listen to It

Introducing your friends to a new podcast is a lot easier if you can link them directly to a part of the episode you think they’ll enjoy. There are several podcasting apps that let users send time-stamped links that will start from a specific part of the episode — including, now, Spotify, which recently added the feature to its podcast player. However, each app’s sharing options work differently and offer varying degrees of control over where an episode will start playing when opening a link.

Below is a list of the popular podcasting apps that let users share timestamped episodes, along with instructions on how to make and send the links.

Spotify

  1. Find the spot in the episode you want to share and tap the “Share” button from the now playing menu in the iOS or Android app.
  2. Toggle “Share from” to share the episode starting at the selected time stamp.
  3. Copy the link, or pick one of the apps from the list.

Pocket Casts

  1. Tap the “Share” button from the main player menu, or from a specific podcast episode page.
  2. Select “current position”
  3. From the listed apps, tap the one you want to share to.
  4. You can add or edit the timecode at the end of the link to change the starting playback position. For example, if you want a podcast to start 15 minutes in, put “#t=15m” at the end of the link.

Google Podcasts

  1. Open an episode’s page in Google Podcasts.
  2. Tap the “Share” button, then select “Share from.”
  3. Select the app or sharing method you wish to use.

Overcast

  1. Tap the “Share” icon in the upper-right of the Now Playing screen.
  2. You can select “Share Link from Current Time” to share from the current timestamp, “Share Link from Chapter Start” (if the episode has chapter links), or “Share Clip” to create a 30-second long clip starting at the point at which you’re currently listening.

Castbox

  1. Tap the “Share” button from the Now Playing screen’s playback controls.
  2. Select “Share episode with position” to send a link to the episode starting from your current timestamp.

RadioPublic

  1. Go to a podcast episode’s page.
  2. Click “Share.”
  3. Toggle “Start episode at:” to send a link that plays from the current playback position, or type in a different time code.
  4. Fill out the contact info and click “Send,” or select one of the social media apps from the bottom of the menu.

YouTube

  1. If the podcast series uploads episodes to YouTube, tap “Share.”
  2. Toggle the “Start at” box to add a timecode to the link. Type in a new time code to edit the starting position.
  3. Copy and paste the link, or select one of the apps to share it with your friends.

Those are all the podcasting apps that we know of that offer time-stamped sharing options, but if we missed one, let us know in the comments and we’ll add it to the list.
