Send Us Your Tech-Support Questions and We Will Answer Them

Hi! I’ve been writing Lifehacker’s esteemed Tech 911 advice column for three years and running, with a new instalment arriving every week. I’d like to keep up that pace — but to get us through, I need more of your tech questions. Anything you’ve got, throw it my way.

I’ve published around 150 columns or so, give or take, which means I’ve helped that many people get through the quirkiest of technological issues. We’ve walked through the valley of “How did porn get on my device” together; we’ve staved off pandemic-induced social isolation by restoring access to hacked Facebook accounts; we’ve talked a lot about networking. (What’s more important for self-induced COVID isolation than a great wifi connection? Other than Girl Scout cookies, I mean.)

However, the mailbag is starting to feel a little light, and I want to make sure that you’re not feeling left out. If you have a question related to technology, big or small, send it my way by clicking right here. That will launch an email with the subject line already auto-populated, which is how I find your letters in the sea of press releases that washes over my inbox each day. If you’re stumped for a topic, anything tech-related is fair game:

  • Want to know why your Chrome browser keeps flickering? Happy to help.
  • Need some buying advice for a new wireless router? Hit me up.
  • Pissed that your sprawling Steam library makes it too hard to find games that you might want to play? I can fix that.
  • Experiencing a cracked, broken, smoking, overly warm, or cursed device? Let’s chat.
  • Looking for a freeware or open-source alternative to an app that costs a lot of cash? I love these.

Even if there’s something you want to do, but have no idea how to get started — such as figuring out which of the many coaxial outlets in your house actually work, and how to connect up the rest of them without spending a fortune — I’m here for you. Even if I don’t know the exact solution to your very specific problem, I can walk you through all the troubleshooting I can think of (or research) so you can feel confident that you haven’t missed anything obvious. I definitely don’t want you to call in more expensive help if there’s a simple solution you didn’t know.

While the best way to get your question answered is by sending me an email detailing the problem (including any solutions you’ve already tried along with screenshots or pictures, as needed), you can also shoot me a tweet @thedavidmurphy. You can even leave a comment on this post if you really want to. I’m here to help.

Do you have a tech question keeping you up at night? Tired of troubleshooting your Windows or Mac? Looking for advice on apps, browser extensions, or utilities to accomplish a particular task? Let us know! Tell us in the comments below or email [email protected].
