How to Get Apple TV+ Free for a Year

Apple is expanding its free trial program to give you even more time to sample Apple TV+ at no cost. The streaming service is home to a growing slate of original programming — recently including Justin Timberlake’s Palmer, M. Night Shyamalan’s Servant, and The Oprah Conversation — so if you’ve been considering giving it a shot, here’s how the new free trial works.

What Apple is offering

The regular free trial for Apple TV+ is a mere seven days, but Apple offers a one-year free trial for the streaming service with the purchase of an eligible Apple device. If yours was set to expire between now and June of this year, you’ll be able to keep on watching through July. That might not sound like a huge extension, but it’s actually Apple’s second. The company previously made the same deal for people whose free trials were expiring in October of last year, bumping the date back to February of 2021.

Apple TV+ normally costs $7.99 a month. Those who already started paying the $7.99 monthly fee, but are now able to get some extra free time with the service, will receive an App Store credit to offset the costs of February through June.

What products are eligible for a year-long Apple TV+ trial

You can get a free one-year trial to Apple TV+ by purchasing a new iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, or Mac computer. After unboxing your new device, you’ll see a code to start your free trial. Don’t dawdle; you have to claim the offer within three months after first activating the new device or it’ll expire. And if you cancel at any point during the free trial, you can’t restart it again. You’ll have to pay for Apple TV+ going forward.

What and how to watch

If you’re taking the plunge and purchasing a new Apple product, it’s worth taking advantage of the free offer if you’re also looking to see movies like Tom Holland’s Cherry or the Golden Globe-nominated series The Morning Show. Even after the trial ends, you might find that the price of $7.99 makes Apple TV+ worth keeping around.

You don’t need the physical Apple TV device to watch Apple TV+ though, as the Apple TV app is available on several devices. You can enjoy your Apple TV purchased content and Apple TV+ originals on:

  • Samsung TVs 2018 or later
  • LG TVs 2018 or later
  • Sony 2018 or later
  • Playstation 4 and 5
  • Xbox One / One S / Series X / Series S
  • LG TVs 2018 or earlier
