Now that we all basically walk around with digital cameras all the time (courtesy of our phones), we may be in the habit of snapping pictures without thinking about it. That’s not a bad thing — it’s really handy to have that tool to capture unexpected moments, or a receipt that you need, but will probably end up losing.

But cameras — even the ones on our phones — are capable of so much more. And if you’ve been considering taking a photography class, now’s your chance: Nikon is offering all of its popular online classes for free through the end of 2020. Here’s how to access them.

What to know about the free classes

Even though we may not be travelling for the holidays this year, that doesn’t mean our at-home photos have to be boring. To help with that, one of the free classes offered focuses on improving our holiday photos. Per Jay Vannatter, Executive Vice President, Nikon Inc:

“Nikon School Online classes are a great way to help anyone brush up on their photography skills and inspire them to capture and share their amazing photos and video with their friends and families this holiday season. Whether celebrating the holidays at home among loved ones or joining together virtually, the power of imaging helps keep us connected, creative and inspired.”

Other classes offered focus on lighting, landscape photography, portraits of kids and pets, macrophotography, environmental portraiture and making music videos.

How to access the classes

In order to take one of these classes, visit this page on the Nikon website and browse through the short introductory videos for each class. When you find one you’d like to take, click on “Watch full version” under the preview video. Then you’ll be required to provide your first and last name, email and country of residence in order to gain access to the whole class. Take one or all of them — just make sure to do it before December 31, 2020, when the offer expires.
