How to See the New Radeon RX 6000 GPU in ‘Fortnite’

How to See the New Radeon RX 6000 GPU in ‘Fortnite’

AMD recently unveiled its new Radeon RX 6000 graphics card series. The card is said to reach similar graphical heights as Nvidia’s flagship RTX 3080 GPU, but at a lower price point. To generate enthusiasm for the new card, AMD is giving customers a virtual hands-on with the GPU in an unorthodox way: an in-game Fortnite map.

Players can load into a custom map in Fortnite’s Creative Mode to get a glimpse of the RX 6000’s physical design. The card floats in the middle of the map, and you can fly right up to any piece of the GPU for a zoomed-in appraisal, or zoom out to gander at the entire model.

  1. Boot up Fortnite.
  2. Select “Creative” then start a match.
  3. In the Creative Mode hub, walk up to one of the in-game data consoles and punch in one of these map codes: 8651-9841-1639 loads into a matchmaking hub, while 5877-8461-8283 takes you directly to the map.
  4. Select “Confirm” and wait for the map to load.
  5. Walk into the portal and you’ll be transported to the map. Double-tap the spacebar to enter flight mode and hover around the giant in-game model of the RX 6000.

I jumped into the map, and while there’s not much to do besides look at the RX 6000, its a novel way to see the card’s design. Everything from the fans to its USB-C ports and three HDMI ports have been recreated in the game (the GPU’s in-game scale doesn’t provide any sense of the card’s real-life dimensions, however). While I wouldn’t recommend anyone goes out of their way to install Fortnite for this, it’s definitely worth hopping in if you’re an active player and want to see what AMD’s next card will look like.
