The Essential Life Skills You Need to Be a Real Person

Lots of people are homeschooling their kids right now, or trying to learn a new competency while spending most of their time at home, or both. However, the most important skills you can learn in life don’t come out of a book or online certification course.

In fact, according to Catherine Newman, author of How to Be a Person: 65 Hugely Useful, Super-Important Skills to Learn before You’re Grown Up, most people never end up learning life’s most basic, foundational skills.

In the video above, Newman lists out what she considers to be the three most essential abilities you should master in order to consider yourself a fully functioning person in this wild world of ours. While these skills may seem like things everyone knows how to do, you may be surprised to learn how you can do them even better, and why it’s so important to pass them on to others.

Newman also highlights the key thing she thinks we could all improve upon as a society — and if everyone were to listen to her, a lot of the issues the world is facing right now could probably be resolved a lot more easily.

To find out what skills Newman recommends (and to understand why I didn’t write them out in this post), check out the video above.
