How to Transport Makeup Without Breakage or Spillage

How to Transport Makeup Without Breakage or Spillage

You’re getting off the plane and you head to the bathroom to freshen up. You open your makeup bag, reach in, and end up with a colourful hand painted in sparkling eyeshadow and some kind of goo. Is that… facial wash? It is. You didn’t pack your makeup correctly, and these are the consequences. Here’s some ways to keep your makeup and face-care products safely inside their containers and not all over your bags.

Use a contact lens case

This is a great hack to use if you’re headed on a short trip. Contact lens cases are lightweight and useful for putting liquid makeup like foundation or concealer inside. The screw cap helps to keep liquids from oozing out and allows you to save the trouble of trying to pack bigger bottles that have the potential to break.

Bring face wipes instead

For those of you who use face wash, it is much more convenient to take face wipes. Face wipes can be transported much more easily than liquid face wash because they are enclosed and will not spill. Face wipes are easier to transport in any size bag.

Get plastic wrap

Plastic wrap can be your makeup’s travelling bestie. There are two ways you can use plastic wrap to keep your makeup intact.

  • Use plastic wrap inside compacts. When you open the compact, place a layer of plastic wrap on top and firmly secure it by taping it underneath. Once you close the compact, your powder, blush, eyeshadow, or bronzer should be secure without cracking.
  • Use it to secure your bottles. Just like the compact, you can place plastic wrap on any TSA-approved travel bottle. Unscrew the cap and place the plastic wrap on top of the area of the bottle that pours. Screw the cap on top and prevent any liquids from seeping out.

Use your socks

Even if you’re headed on a nice beach holiday, socks have a multipurpose when packing. One of those purposes is keeping your makeup wrapped tightly so that it does not ruin the rest of the stuff you have packed in your bags.

Using a pair of crew socks, place your makeup such as lipstick, nail polish, mascara, and eyeliner closer to the toe of one sock. Knot the higher part of the sock (the part of the sock that covers your ankle) or tie it with a rubber band or hair tie. Then place that sock inside of the second sock to secure all of the makeup inside
