Host An Anglophile Watch Party With BBC Together

BBC is testing out a new BBC Together tool that lets multiple users watch the same BBC content at the same time. Whatever you’re watching will be synced to the “host” user’s stream, so everyone will be seeing the same thing simultaneously without the need for third-party apps or browser extensions—all you have to do is create a special link using BBC Together and share with your contacts.

The service lets you watch content from various BBC platforms with multiple contacts, including:

Anyone with a free BBC account can try out the service at no charge for the next three months through BBC’s Taster website, and a single stream supports up to 50 people, so you can easily get your friends and family together for remote watch parties (note that the BBC Together tool is still in testing and may not always work properly).

How to use BBC Together

  1. Go to the BBC Together Taster page.

  2. Click “Try it.”

  3. Click “OK.”

  4. You’ll be asked to sign in with a BBC account. Click “Register Now” and follow the on-screen instructions to make a new one. (Note: users outside the UK may need to employ the help of a VPN in order to access BBC content.)

  5. Once you’re signed in, find the content you want to watch from one of the websites/apps listed above.

  6. Copy the link of what you’ll be watching and paste it into BBC Together. This will generate a new link that you can share with others and join your stream—all they have to do is click it.
