Duplicate All Your Items In Animal Crossing, Because Nothing Matters

I don’t think it’s possible to cheat in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Or, rather, I don’t feel any guilt whatsoever about taking advantage of the game’s quirks to outfit your single-player island however you want. From time-travelling to Turnip Exchanges, there are plenty of methods you can use to circumvent the game’s slow, methodical intentions—including a brand-new duping hack that lets you clone as many items as you want.

Again, do I feel bad? No. Do whatever you want in Animal Crossing; if you get bored a month into the game because you duped up a Crown Island and have nothing else to do, that’s on you. (Thanks to all the wealth I’ve accumulated from various Stalk Market trips, I’m feeling similarly. Why did you even put this in the game, Nintendo?)

There’s no guarantee that the hack you’ll use to duplicate items will work by the time you read this, but it was allegedly working as of when we wrote this article (version 1.2.0 a). To get started, you’ll need a few items:

  • A 2×1 table

  • A 2×2 table

  • A 2×1 item to duplicate (other-sized items won’t work)

You’ll enter the first room of your house and place both tables side-by-side in the centre. You’ll place the item you want to duplicate on the smaller table, select the table using your Switch’s “L” button, and attempt to place the table perpendicular to the larger table. It’ll rotate horizontally. Keep doing this, working your way around your larger table. Then exit and reenter the room, and presto—duplicated item. You’ll have to enter placement mode to pick it up, but there it is, free for the taking.

Confused? I would be, too. Thankfully, this video shows all those steps in very simple and easy-to-understand fashion. (Also, how do people figure these things out?)

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some, er, accessories to, uh…oh, who am I kidding. I have some Oarfishes that need more friends. A friendly word of warning, however: While I doubt Nintendo is going to start banning accounts if you use this duplication hack, try this one at your own risk. Also, you might want to hurry, as I have no doubt in my mind that Nintendo is working to patch things up right now.

If you need a little inspiration for what to duplicate, here’s a handy list of items, courtesy of Game Rant:
