Update Your Network Solutions, Register.com. Or Web.com Password Now

If you’ve ever purchased a domain name from Network Solutions, Register.com, or Web.com, you’ll want to change your password ASAP. The domain registrars have announced that they experienced a data breach in August 2019.

In emails to customers, the companies explained they learned of the breach in October 2019. While no credit card data was accessed, account information may have been revealed. That information may include names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and order details.

Web.com owns Network Solutions and Register.com. A spokesperson from Web.com told Krebs on Security this week that account passwords are encrypted, and are not suspected to have been compromised.

To be on the safe side, all customers will need to reset their passwords. An email from Network Solutions explained that “affected customers” are being notified by email and on its website.

It’s a pain to have to change your account information for a website you may only access occasionally (like when you have a “great idea” for a website and then sit on the domain name for the next five years…no names, no names). But if you’re still using Password123! for any of your online accounts, we have a guide for shoring up your online security. Face it, you’re probably long overdue for an update.
