Hey there. Having a bad day? Everything’s going to be ok—just breathe in and out.
If you’ve ever had a bout of anxiety, you might feel like your heart’s pounding out of your chest or you can’t think clearly. One remedy is deep, slow breathing. Several studies suggest that breathing slowly can calm you down in high-anxiety situations. More than anything, focusing on breathing allows you to think about anything other than what’s contributing to your anxiety for a few moments. (There’s a reason why psychologists and others tout “mindfulness” as a meditation tactic.)
But how would you accomplish this? Here’s a GIF, courtesy of Twitter user @iatemuggles, that’ll demonstrate how to breathe when you’re feeling anxious.
