How To Buy The Microsoft Surface Pro X In Australia

Microsoft is launching a bunch of new Surface products over the next few weeks: The Surface Pro X, Surface Pro 7 and new Surface Laptop 3. Each device comes in multiple models with varying specs, prices, and release dates, but all of them can be pre-ordered right now.

Below you’ll find a breakdown of each device, plus links for where to pre-order — though if you’re keen on any of the new Surface devices and want one soon, you’ll probably want to jump on the pre-order as soon as you can. Microsoft has limited stock available and expects them to sell out quickly.

Surface Pro 7

Release date: October 22

First up, we have the new Surface Pro 7. Each Surface Pro 7 uses a 10th-generation Intel Core processor, but the specific CPU varies depending on which configuration you choose. The amount of RAM and internal storage space can also be customised, and there are alternate colour options available for certain models.

Here’s a list of each model available and its hardware specs:

  • $1,249 – 10th gen Intel Core i3 processor, 4GB RAM, 128GB internal storage. Available in platinum.

  • $1,499 – 10th gen Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 128GB internal storage. Available in platinum.

  • $3,749 – 10th gen Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 1TB storage. Available in platinum.

The Surface Pro 7 can be pre-ordered at the Microsoft Store, though some colours seem to already be selling out. Early adopters should get on it quickly.

Surface Laptop 3

Release date: October 22

The Surface Laptop 3 comes in two sizes, one with a 13.5-inch screen and another with a 15-inch screen, but there are some pretty big differences between the two besides the 5cm display difference.

The 13.5-inch model starts at $1,699 and features an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. However, several other more powerful options are available, maxing out at $3,949 for an Intel Core i7 model with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage space.

Conversely, the 15-inch models swap out the Intel processors for AMD’s new Ryzen line. The cheapest 15-inch configuration features an AMD Ryzen 5 3580U CPU, 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage for $1,999, while the top-end choice at $4,399 has an AMD Ryzen 7 3780U, 32GB RAM and 1TB of disk space.

Various colour options are available for both sizes, including platinum “fabric” and platinum “metal;” black; cobalt blue; and sandstone, though specific colour options differ based on configuration. You can check colour availability and pre-order the Surface Laptop 3 from the Microsoft store.

Surface Pro X

Release Date: November 19

Rounding out the triumvirate is the Surface Pro X. There are two base models — one with 8GB of memory, and one with 16GB — and each can be upgraded with more internal storage. Both models include 13-inch touchscreens, built-in LTE mobile data connections, and run unique SQ1 processors developed by Microsoft and Qualcomm.

Here are the prices and storage options available for both Surface Pro X models:

  • 8GB RAM: $1,699 for 128GB internal storage, or for $2,149 256GB.

  • 16GB RAM: $2,499 for 256GB internal storage, or $2,899 for 512GB.

Those who want the optional keyboard cover ($199.95) and/or Surface Slim Pen ($234.95) will have to purchase them separately from their Surface Pro X, but you can bundle the two accessories at a slight discount of $429.95.

The Surface Pro X, Slim Pen, and type cover can all be pre-ordered online from the Microsoft Store.
