How To Hide Memojis In iOS 13 And iPadOS 13

Memojis have been added to the iPad and iPhone keyboard in iPad and iOS 13, which is great news if you’re a fan of oddly creepy, personalised lookalikes. If you’re not one of those people, then you may find this inclusion a bit annoying — they take up a surprising amount of real estate in the emoji keyboard.

Thankfully, there are two ways to hide memojis from your emoji keyboard, and both methods apply to all of your apps. The first method is super easy, but it doesn’t fully disable Memojis. Instead, it hides them when you open the emoji menu.

  1. In any app that lets you type, open the keyboard

  2. Tap the emoji icon to open the emoji keyboard

  3. Swipe left until the Memoji columns are hidden, then close the keyboard by tapping on the emoji icon again. Your device will save your change and keep the Memojis hidden the next time you open your emoji keyboard.

This is the simplest way to hide your Memojis, and good for those who don’t want them cluttering their keyboard, but still want to keep them a little accessible. Should you ever decide you want to access Memojis again, simply open the emoji keyboard and swipe to the right to reveal them again.

For those who just want those uncanny characters gone for good, you can disable them entirely in the Messages app’s settings.

  1. Open the Messages app, then open one of your conversations (it doesn’t matter which one — you just need to do this to make the right options appear).

  2. Swipe right on the app drawer at the bottom of Messages, and then tap the “…” icon.

  3. Tap “Edit” to open the More Apps list.

  4. Scroll down and disable “Memoji Stickers” from the app list.

  5. Close the menu. The next time you open the keyboard, your emojis list should now look more like it did in pre-Memoji eras of iOS.
