Update Your Pet’s Microchip Information Today

It’s smart to get your pet microchipped so you can be reunited if they’re ever lost, but don’t forget that there’s another step in that plan: keeping your information up to date so that whoever finds your pet can actually contact you.

Yesterday was Check the Chip Day, an annual reminder to check on your microchip information, make sure it’s up to date, and book an appointment to get your pet chipped if it’s a thing you’ve been meaning to get around to.

First, make sure you have your pet’s chip number and manufacturer written down someplace safe. Then, go to Pet Registry, or your local equivalent to see what information is linked to that microchip number.

Instructions from there will depend on the chip’s brand and local registry. You’ll probably have to log in to the account you created sometime in the past. Otherwise whoever finds your pet could be trying to contact you with old information, so take a minute to update your info — and hope that you’ll never have to use it.
