Make A Fruity Old Fashioned With Pineapple Rum

I can drink an old fashioned any day of the week, but sometimes it’s fun to change things up a bit. A dark rum old fashioned is already a great choice, but a pineapple rum old fashioned is an even better one.

If “pineapple rum” sounds cloying to you, I need you to banish that idea from your brain box. Though I rarely recommend super specific bottles, the Plantation Pineapple rum is something absolutely everyone should have on their bar cart.

The pure pineapple flavour is balanced with a little bit of smoke and cloves, making it one of the most sophisticated fruit-flavored spirits I have ever tasted. It makes a great daiquiri, but the things it does in a rum old fashioned are truly delightful. To make it, you will need:

  • 60ml Plantation Pineapple rum (or your favourite dark rum)

  • 1 teaspoon simple syrup

  • 3 dashes of bitters (Angostura or lime)

Add everything to a lowball and give the liquids a stir. Add a large ice cube, and stir in the glass until well chilled. If you need a garnish, try a violently red maraschino cherry. Drink and repeat.
