This week Foxtel announced that Netflix would begin rolling out for its customers between now and November. Only 50,000 customers will get the update at first, but what if you want it right now?

Well, you can. Here's how.

Netflix Comes To Foxtel, But It's No Cheaper

Earlier this week a leak from News Corp revealed that Foxtel would be partnering up with Netflix. The early news came in the form of the new Foxtel remote which included a Netflix button. The news is now official, and we have all of the juicy details for you.

Along with access to Netflix, Foxtel also announced a complete overhaul of its UI, which will also be available in the new update.

It will now look pretty much the same as Netflix and other streaming service interfaces that you're probably used to.

It didn't take long for some savvy Foxtel customers to work out that they didn't have to wait for the update to naturally roll out to them. Instead, they took matters into their own hands by manually updating the software.

In an email to Gizmodo Australia a Foxtel representative confirmed that a manual update would indeed give customers access to the new UI and Netflix.

However, it's important to note that at the present time this will only work if you have an iQ4 box. If you have an iQ3 you'll need to wait until September.

Here's how you do it, according to the Foxtel website.

  • Ensure the iQ4 is ON
  • On the iQ4 box (not remote control) press and hold the power/standby button in until you see it change from BLUE to RED (ensuring you can see the light glow under your finger.)
  • Keep pressing it until it changes back to BLUE
  • Release the power button
  • Press the standby button again 3 times quickly and the power button will go ORANGE

Once you have completed the above steps the software should download in roughly ten minutes.

Foxtel advises that your screen may go blank or you could see a software update screen. The software is downloading if the power button goes orange.

And this is how to check if you have the latest update:

  • Press the HOME button on your remote
  • Scroll right to SETTINGS
  • Scroll down to ADVANCED SETTINGS
  • Look at SYSTEM DETAILS

At the present time new and current customers can get Netflix free for 6 months, though the latter will need to re-contract.

No bundles or new pricing have been announced as yet, though Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany did tell Gizmodo Australia that we will see changes in September or October.

Comments

Netflix on Foxtel as long as it is free to standing subscribers is a good thing I am sure. However, users need to be aware the beautiful HD picture on normal Nextfix will be lost on fuzzy Foxtel.

I just updated my iQ4 using these instructions - Netflix works in Ultra4k with an ultra clear picture, however ..... there is no HDR and there is no Atmos audio. So for me I'll continue to watch Netflix on a 4k AppleTV as it has HDR and Atmos
