Telstra’s New 5G Phone Plans Have Landed!

Telstra just changed its 5G phone lineup, with all existing plans disappearing from its website. In their place are four contract-free options that dispense with extras goodies in a bid to keep prices down.

If you’re keen to get on Telstra’s 5G network, here are your new options.

Telstra currently has three 5G smartphones for its new network – the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, the Oppo Reno 5G and the LG ThinkQ V50. (You can read what we think about each phone and their speeds here.)

That’s right: all 12- and 24-month contract plans are set to be axed, along with smartphone leases. Here’s how much the new plans cost, the inclusions you get and what happens to your existing plan.”]

Whichever phone you plump for, the four base plans cost the same and come with identical data caps. Extras, like data roaming and international calls, need to be purchased separately.

The base pricing is as follows:

  • Small: 15GB data for $50 a month

  • Medium:
  • 60GB data for $60 a month
    [clear]
  • Large:
  • 100GB data for $80 a month
    [clear]
  • Extra Large:
  • 150GB data for $100 a month

However, once you factor in the monthly handset repayments, the price differs considerably. Here’s how much you’ll need to pay for each phone plan.

Oppo Reno 5G

LG ThinkQ V50

Samsung Galaxy S10+ 5G (256GB model)

Samsung Galaxy S10+ 5G (512GB model)

As you can see, the priciest option is the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G which will set you back a minimum of $134 a month. This balloons to $193 if you go for the higher-capacity model with 150GB of data.

Next up is the LG ThinkQ V50 which starts at $122 per month for the Small plan and $172 for the Extra Large.

The cheapest 5G phone plan currently available is for the Oppo Reno – the entry level plan is $113 with the plans maxing out at $163. All Oppo plans also come with a bonus pair of Bose Headphones until 7 July 2019.

Whichever plan you plump for, we think the 100GB plan is your best bet – it comes with enough data to actually take advantage of 5G speeds. Plus, you get to keep using the 5G network after the promotional period ends. (The Small and Medium plans revert to 4G after June 30 2020. Accessing 5G will then cost $15 extra per month.)

Our pick: Get the Oppo Reno 5G on a 100GB plan for $143.
