Is It Better To Use An App, Or Do It The Old-Fashioned Way?

Video: Have you ever taken out your phone to write down a list and think “Is this way actually better than how it used to be?”

Well, we had the same thought and had Lifehacker staff members Nick Douglas and Abu Zafar test out simple tasks head-to-head, analogue versus digital.

Starting with using a tape measure against the iPhone’s measurement app, Nick and Abu tested seven tasks, including depositing a check, seeing a great distance and using a compass.

The verdict? It isn’t so simple. Apps have made our lives so much easier in some ways, but there are still many chores where tech doesn’t necessarily come out on top. In certain functions such as splitting a restaurant bill, the app won handily. But in physical-based tasks such as measuring or writing notes, digital isn’t always better.
