Forget The Winter Solstice With This Summery Cocktail

Happy winter solstice, cats and kittens! Today is not only the shortest day of the year, but the official beginning of winter. But perhaps you’re missing the brightness of summer. There’s a cocktail for that.

If it taught me a second thing, it’s that I’m definitely not drinking enough aquavit. And if it (somehow) managed to teach me yet another thing, it would be that I should have been combining these two drinks quite some time ago.”]

Some people think of “summery” drinks as primarily fruity, but I like mine to have a botanical, almost savoury herbal note to balance and refresh. Aquavit is perhaps the easiest way to add this element to your beverages. When paired with grapefruit, and a little Lillet Blanc, you get an irresistible drink you can enjoy any time of the year. To make it, you will need:

  • 40ml Aquavit
  • 30ml fresh grapefruit juice
  • 20ml Lillet Blanc

Combine everything in a shaker filled with ice (or one big cube) and shake until your tin becomes too cold to hold comfortably. Strain into a coupe, and enjoy.
