When You Buy Edibles, Buy A Cannabis-Free Version As Well

We have entered a new age of edibles. Even if you do not live in a fully legalised state or country with a fancy dispensary, there are enough recipes and resources out there to ensure the edibles you make and/or eat taste like food rather than weed. This is good because it’s more fun to eat things that taste good, but it’s bad because it’s much easier to eat too many.

If you’ve ever eaten too much weed, you know it’s not enjoyable. Unlike smoking, the effects of an edible take a while to kick in, but then they kick in hard.

This is why you’re only supposed to eat a little at a time, and wait at least an hour before ingesting (or smoking) any more marijuana product. A particularly delicious edible is therefore a dangerous thing, particularly if you are prone to the munchies, or oddly confident about your tolerance.

This is why you should always — always — have a cannabis-free dupe of your edible at the ready.

For example, if your edible is a gummy, get a few bags of your favourite Haribo. (Yes, a few; the worst thing that could happen is you have leftover gummy bears.) If you are ingesting chocolate, get some fancy chocolate bars. Heck, I’ve even seen weed-infused Cheez-Its, and I’d hate to imagine a scenario where one was high, and the only available Cheez-Its were cannabis-infused.

So, even if you don’t have a history of the munchies, and are confident in your restraint, get yourself the dupe. Even if you don’t eat it, it will keep you from obsessing over the off-limits snack, and that’s great, because obsessive thoughts while high are no fun.

(Let’s be honest though: you’re probably going to eat it.)
