Introduce Your Kid To The Baby-Sitters Club

Introduce Your Kid To The Baby-Sitters Club

If you’ve been waiting for a sign that it’s time to introduce your kids to The Baby-Sitters Club, Netflix has generously decided to oblige.

The streaming service announced that it has ordered 10 episodes of the classic 1980s and 90s book series-turned-TV show-turned movie. Even the simplest of descriptions has me excited:

In this contemporary take on the beloved book series, five best friends launch a baby-sitting business that’s big on fun and adventure.

Oh it sure is.

Netflix isn’t yet saying when the show will be released, which means you still have time to introduce the series to your tween in preparation. (Go ahead and re-read them yourself while you’re at it; you know, so you can talk about the stories with your kid.)

If you don’t still have them buried in a box in your parents’ basement (I know you probably do), may I recommend you start with this “retro set” of books 1-6 with their original covers and a (bonus!) tin case.

If your kid is a little too young for BSC, don’t be afraid to start with Baby-Sitters Little Sister, a spin-off series about Club President Kristy Thomas’ younger stepsister, Karen. The Little Sisters books are targeted for younger, early readers and are, therefore, the BSC gateway drug.

Between the two series, there are a couple hundred books to get through, so the time to start is now.
