How Charles And Ray Eames Brought Modern Design Into Every Aspect Of Their Lives

Video: If you think of iconic design couple Charles and Ray Eames as “the chair people”, you’d be technically correct, but missing out on all the other innovations they created during their lives.

With backgrounds in architecture and art, the couple devised new ways to work with wood (and built materials for the army before making their iconic chairs), created groundbreaking immersive films, and built the forbearer to the contemporary live/work space.

The video above tells the story of how Charles and Ray lived as they designed — always prioritising function and problem solving over ornamentation. (And, yes, also how they made the chairs.)

We’d like to give a very special thanks to Eames Office for helping us source the archive material for this video.
