How To Get Optus 5G Access In Sydney

Optus has launched Australia’s first 5G home broadband network. If you’re in a supported suburb, you can register your interest with Optus and potentially join the network right now. Here’s how to get early access.

Optus recently launched Australia’s first 5G home broadband plan, imaginatively titled 5G Home Broadband Plan. Two sites are currently live in the ACT – Dickson and Manuka – with a third hitting Sydney this morning – Kellyville in Sydney’s north-west.

The initial offering consists of a $70 plan with unlimited data and a 50Mbps “Satisfaction Guarantee”. (This means Optus will cancel your contract with no cancellation fees if your download speeds dip below 50Mbps.)

Here’s how the pricing compares to current 4G wireless home broadband offerings:

An additional 48 sites are set to be switched on by March 2019. These will be across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and the ACT. (Tassie and NT customers will have to wait a bit longer.)

Here’s the full list of Optus 5G launch suburbs:

“This is another significant milestone for Optus as we continue with our customer focused 5G roll-out plan. We are further demonstrating that our multi-vendor approach to Optus 5G will help to deliver a more dynamic and innovative 5G network for the benefit of our customers,” Dennis Wong, Managing Director Networks at Optus said.

The 5G Home Broadband Plan isn’t currently purchasable on Optus’ website – but you can register an expression of interest, which should ensure you’re among the first to get connected. Here are the required steps:

  1. Register your interest for 5G Home Broadband.
  2. Optus will check to see if your address is within one of the limited 5G areas of your suburb. If your address is 5G serviceable, Optus will notify you.
  3. 5G devices are scheduled to be delivered from mid-2019. A limited number of customers may get a device sooner.
  4. Experience Optus 5G Home Broadband.

It’s now possible to score a 200GB plan – which is enough data to replace your home internet – for as little as $60 a month.

Here are two plans from Optus that are well worth considering.”]
