We Answered The Most Googled ‘How To’ Questions Of 2018

Here at Lifehacker we had an answer for nine of the top 10 Google searches this year. (And our sister site answered the tenth.)

  1. How to buy Ripple: Here’s how to buy all kinds of cryptocurrency. And here’s how to sell it.

  2. How to turn off automatic updates: Go ahead, stop your Mac from bugging you to update. If you’re on Windows, we covered this back in 2015.

  3. How to get the old Snapchat back: We gave you a temporary way to roll back to the old Snapchat. But eventually the app would force you to update, so here’s our guide to the new design.

  4. How to play Powerball: Last year we told you about how to improve your odds (of not sharing your winnings).

But if you wanted to virtually guarantee you’d win, you’d have to spend $US150 ($208) million more than the jackpot.

  5. How to buy Bitcoin: We told you above. But look, this year the value of one Bitcoin plummeted from $19k to $3k. Why not save your money and pretend to buy Bitcoin instead, with this browser game?

  6. How to screen record: There are many ways to record your screen, but this Chrome extension makes it easy.

Here’s how to record your screen on Android; iOS has it built in (you can add a Screen Recorder button to your Control Center).

  7. How to get boogie down emote: We don’t have the answer, but our sister site Kotaku does: you have to enable two-factor on Fortnite.

That’s the top list of timely searches. They’re all different from 2017’s top trending searches. They’re also different from the top searches overall, which include more workaday searches like “how to make pancakes” and “how to get pregnant.”

And it looks like we kept up with the times pretty well this year. Sorry we dropped the ball on Fortnite.
