Every night around 2am, the gentleman that lives above me decides to move a piece of furniture and then throw roughly 7,000 pennies at it. Or at least that’s what I’ve convinced myself he’s doing. Whatever it is it’s startling and consistently wakes me up, but isn’t momentous enough for him to have “any idea” what I’m referring to.
All that to say now I’m a tremendous fan of white noise.
We bought a white noise machine that sits next to the bed now (along with a huge fan) to help block out my awesome neighbour.
This week I came across another great alternative: using an Echo. The Alexa skill “Sleep and Relaxation Sounds” was named one of Amazon’s top Alexa skills of the
While I’m not 100% sure I want to put an Echo in our bedroom, the skill could come in handy for other times, for instance when I’m trying to work and that same neighbour is tap dancing in his wooden clogs or there’s distracting commotion on the street outside.
Once enabled, you initiate the sounds by saying “Alexa, ask Sleep Sounds to play [sound you want to hear].” By default, the skill will play the sound until you tell it to stop. You can also set a sleep timer. For instance, you might say “Alexa, stop in 4 hours” while the sound is playing in schedule a stop time.
