How To Use Alexa As An Advent Calendar

If you’re a Christmas-celebrating person then you’re probably familiar with advent calendars. The idea behind them is that you open a small gift every day as part of a countdown to actual Christmas.

When I was a kid the “top shelf” version of this, and by that I mean the nicest one my parents would ever buy, involved getting a tiny piece of chocolate each night. Now, you can buy them with whiskey, beer, socks, and pretty much anything else you can think of as the “gift” of the day. There’s also an Alexa version that can provide you audio “gifts” as you countdown.

To access it, just say “Alexa, open my gift” each day. Alexa will have a different response each day, varying from jokes and fun facts to a musical interlude.

There are also a few Advent Calendar Alexa skills you can use, although you’ll have to enable them in the Alexa app first.

For a more religious feel, Advent Calendar reads the verse of the day each day of the advent season and tells you what day of advent it is.

And if you want all jokes all the time, Fun Advent Calendar will tell you a Christmas-themed joke each day. You can also specify a previous day to hear a joke you enjoyed again.
