The weather is heating up already and finding ways to keep cool in the heat is at the forefront of everyone’s minds. Food and drink can help to keep you cool during these hot months, including this tip on chilling drinks with melons.
Adding frozen fruit to cocktails to keep them cool is a pretty common practice, but some fruits are simply more chill than others. For fruity cubes that will actually keep your beverage cold for an appreciable amount of time, you want to reach for melon.
Why melons and not, say, berries? Though any frozen fruit will initially help chill a drink, the high water content in melons means they freeze better, and stay frozen longer than other fruits.
Watermelon, rockmelon, honeydew and even cucumber (which is technically a melon!) all perform this task extremely well and, once you’re done drinking your drink, you have a booze-infused snack to enjoy.
For best results freezing your fruit cubes, spread them out on a baking sheet before popping them in the freezer to keep them from clumping together.
