Clean This Spot In Your Kitchen If You Have Pets

Zealous cleaners, beware: there is an area in your kitchen where filth has accumulated, and you can’t even see it. What’s particularly alarming about it is that it’s much worse if you have pets. (Or if the previous tenant had pets.)

In fact, if an animal has so much as breathed in your house, you should check under your fridge, according to Reddit user u/Tuckerismypuppy. They posted a photo of that area, writing that they’re removed the “bottom plastic cap” and found a disturbing amount of hair in the place where they make food:

We’ve lived here one year. Have one dog. And previous owners didn’t have pets. This is insane and never knew about removing this plastic piece to vacuum the radiator coil thing. Just thought I’d show people that didn’t know.

Behold:

It’s gross, of course, but it’s also bad for the appliance. According to u/flying_trashcan, you can buy a cleaning brush specifically designed for shoving under there and dusting the machine’s coils, which they say they only do about twice a year. Then u/dyl_pykle08 chimed in to say it’s make a huge difference for them:

I did mine last week andnow it freezes things at the same settings. I had to turn it down a tad so there’s some savings.

Cleaning the bottom of your fridge regularly can help it run more efficiently, and it will also prevent a second nightmare pet made of fur from growing under there.
