Hide Chrome’s Distractions With ‘Blank New Tab Page’

When I’m trying to do work, every little thing distracts me. Google autocomplete, my inbox, even the page that Chrome loads when I open a new tab.

Well, the helpful page Chrome used to load. Because for the last few years, I’ve run the Chrome extension Blank New Tab Page.

When I open a new tab or window in Chrome, I get an actual blank page. Nothing is there to distract me.

I check all my new mail, and I put off the actual task I opened Gmail for. None of that new email was urgent, but I couldn’t ignore all those bold lines. So now I hide my inbox with Inbox When Ready.”]

There are a lot of extensions that will add stuff to your new tab page, such as links to popular articles, or motivational quotes, or kittens, or any other web page.

But all of these make me forget why I even opened the tab. It’s as if every time I walked into a room, the door tried to tell me about other rooms I could go to.

If you’re easily distracted, or you’ve just never gotten anything out of that new tab page, load up this Chrome extension and put a little more white space in your life.
