You’ve got a week before Christmas music starts seeping into every crevice of the ambient soundscape. So let’s throw one last hurrah of Halloween music. With the help of my colleagues throughout Gizmodo Media, some YouTube recommendations, and old episodes of Dr. Demento, I’ve built a playlist (embedded above) of 52 songs for Halloween.
Highlights include “Thriller,” the Ghostbusters theme, the haunting Torgo theme made famous by MST3K, Nick Cave’s “Red Right Hand,” a live lip-sync of “The Monster Mash,” and “This Is Halloween” — which honestly is one of the least creative refrains in music history, but hey, it works.
There’s a terrifying remix of “Mr. Sandman” that simply slows the song down a tad, and a couple of compilations: one of Halloween songs of the 20s and 30s, one of obscure spooky music from the Vintage Obscura subreddit, and one of great Halloween commercials.
Some of these songs come with cartoons and music videos; some just play in the background. Add your own favourite Halloween songs below, and we’ll all hold the line against the Christmas creep.
