Monopoly has released an official Cheaters Edition in Australia. Although there have been a whole lot of special edition Monopolys over the years, none have been quite like this. It has been made with the accurate assumption that loads of people cheat at the game, so why not write it into the rules?
Apparently almost 50 per cent of Monopoly players have admitted to bending the Monopoly rules. Now getting away with it has been rolled into the game.
"With regular reports of space skipping or rent dodging, we know MONOPOLY games can get pretty heated,” said Jonathan Berkowitz, senior vice president of global marketing for Hasbro Gaming. "With the MONOPOLY Cheaters Edition, we’re mixing things up by leveling the playing field for fans everywhere!"
Players can try to steal money, skip spaces and even avoid rent — and it's all above board. To add to the conflict of interest, each player gets to be in charge of the bank during their turn so it's easier to get their grabby hands on some cold, hard Monopoly cash.
There's a catch though. If you're going to cheat, you need to be sneaky. If you're caught there will be consequences, including getting handcuffed to the board.
Rich Uncle Pennybags is into some kinky stuff these days.
You could probably replicate the black spirit of cheaters Monopoly with whatever version of the game you already have. You'd have to provide your own cuffs though. But if you are a special edition collector or simply want a legit copy of Monopoly Cheaters Edition it's available in Australia now for $39.99.
