Samsung Galaxy S10: All The Facts And Rumours So Far [Updated]

Even with the reveal of Samsung's oddball folding phone, all eyes are still on the upcoming flagship. The Samsung Galaxy S10 is one of the most anticipated phones of 2019, expected to be released early next year. If you're eagerly holding out for news on the Galaxy S10, here's everything we know (and think we know) about Samsung's next phone.

This article has been updated since its original publication on September 27, 2018.

Reports differ on when the S10 is going to be announced, though most agree it's either going to be at CES in January 2019, as per this quoted 'industry insider' or at MWC in February 2019, according to another renowned leaker. Either way, we're fairly certain to get it sometime early next year.

Note that the S10 is different to the Galaxy X, Samsung's experimental foldable phone, even though the names are easily confused for anyone familiar with Roman numerals. (Case in point: the iPhone X is actually pronounced "iPhone Ten" according to Apple.) Luckily the foldable phone has now been revealed as the 'Galaxy F'.

Samsung's Foldable Galaxy F: Price And Release Date Revealed

Last week, we caught our first official glimpse of Samsung's folding Galaxy smartphone at SDC 2018. Now, a leaked memo has revealed the release date and pricing for this intriguing gizmo. The 'Galaxy F' will be available to buy in March 2019 alongside a 5G-powered Galaxy S10. It will also cost well north of $2500 in Australia. Yikes.

It Might Just Be 5G Ready

The newest leak suggests a 5G ready Samsung Galaxy S10 may be on the way - though it may come as a later update to the new phone. However Samsung's DJ Koh has said that their first 5G phone was still a way off after the S10, so take that as you will.

The Notchless Notch

A report by Forbes has suggested that Samsung's fully notchless 'Infinity' technology likely won't be ready by the time the Samsung S10 releases, but it probably won't have a notch as we know it, either. Sources have said the S10 will most likely just have a small open circle for the camera, named the 'Infinity-O' by Samsung. Renders place the O on the left of the screen, which is slightly odd looking, but it might not be too bad as a centered circle.

The Fingerprint Sensor Will Be In The (Impressive) Display

Smartphones have put fingerprint sensors everywhere from the back of the phone, to the home button, to the side, to the power button. But according to reports the Samsung S10 is going to be joining the small but growing list of phones that are putting their fingerprint sensors on the display itself. The report claims Samsung has signed a deal with Qualcomm to bring their ultrasonic fingerprint-on-display scanner to the S10.

Report: Samsung Galaxy S10 Will Revolutionise Smartphone Displays

The Samsung Galaxy S10 has been subject to a rumour blitzkrieg over the past few months. Everything from the number of cameras (allegedly five) to the CPU (a beastly Exynos 9820) has been leaked. Now, fresh details have emerged about the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Apparently, it will be Qualcomm's best and most powerful sensor to date.

A tweet by Ice Universe claims the screen resolution on the S10 is going to be pushed beyond 600ppi, a big improvement on the S9's 570ppi. Display sizes will also increase slightly from the previous generation, with the regular model up from 5.77 to 5.8 inches, and the Plus increasing from 6.22 to 6.3 inches.

The S10's Camera Is Going To Be Something Special

Or rather, cameras. Early rumours pegged the S10 as being the first phone to have five cameras jammed into it, one more than the record-breaking Huawei P20 Pro. The configuration would most likely include three cameras on the back and two on the front with one dedicated to a selfie-taking portrait mode.

The most recent camera leaks suggest that the three rear cameras will include a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 13-megapixel telephoto lens with up to 3x optical zoom and 16-megapixel super wide-angle camera.

Report: The Samsung Galaxy S10 Is Getting A Massive Camera Upgrade

Last month, we reported that the Samsung Galaxy S10 might come with five cameras - two in the front and three in the rear. Today, a fresh S10 leak has significantly bolstered this theory. If true, it means the S10 will almost certainly have a much better camera than the Galaxy Note 9 and might just be worth holding out for. Here are the details.

While not a leak, some have speculated thanks to the in-screen fingerprint sensor that the Galaxy S10 will borrow the Oppo's clever solution of a pop out front camera (or cameras), making for a no-notch, bezel-free display.

It'll Have Good Guts

While this was never really in dispute, with every flagship on this level seeking to push the boundaries of smartphone performance, early reports can pinpoint more specifically what we can expect from the S10's processor. The phone will apparently be powered by an Exynos 9820 CPU with a next-gen Mongoose M4 core that could reach a core clockspeed of 3.30GHz or more.

Report: Samsung Galaxy S10 Is Going To Be A Freaking Beast

Another day, another yammering Samsung Galaxy S10 rumour. Today's noteworthy leaks centre around a trio of front-facing cameras (or was that yesterday?), a 3D-face scanner, an "absolute ripper" of a CPU and a fingerprint sensor embedded right into the display. Here's everything you need to know.

Face Unlock Is Getting An Upgrade

Face ID was the iPhone X's biggest selling point, and now reports suggest Samsung is working on its own answer to this 3D face-scanning tech. If the feature comes to the S10, it'll replace the iris-scanning tech present in Samsung's current phones. The same report says it isn't a certain thing, however - the S10 may revert to using an iris scanner if the firm producing the face-scanning technology misses its deadline on production.

600DPI screen? Can anyone actually differentiate between that and a lower resolution? Smacks of stats-chasing.
