Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Buttons Not Working? Here’s How To Fix It

An increasing number of Samsung Galaxy Note 9 owners are experiencing problems with the home, back and recent buttons on the bottom of the smartphone’s screen. According to the reports, these touch screen buttons have intermittently stopped working, forcing users to restart their devices. Samsung is currently working on a software update to fix the issue, but in the mean time, here’s a quick way to get the buttons’ responsiveness back.

Over the past few days, there have been multiple complaints on the Samsung community forum about the Galaxy Note 9’s virtual buttons randomly becoming unresponsive. According to one user, the buttons – which are essential for navigating the phone’s UI – only work about 50 per cent of the time. While restarting the phone seems to fix the issue, it eventually returns seemingly at random.

According to Samsung, the issue was caused by a software update to Samsung Pay (3.0.00). Currently, the bug only affects users who have not set up the digital wallet app on their device.

“We have sent the details to the team and they are working on a fix now for Samsung Pay that we hope to release in the very near future,” a Samsung rep said. Fortunately, Samsung has a stopgap solution that you can use in the interim.

How to fix the Samsung Galaxy Note 9’s buttons:

If you swipe the Samsung Pay “hint” image up from the bottom of the screen three times and dismiss it, the hint is removed from the screen.

This returns all virtual buttons to normal functionality. Alternatively, setting up Samsung Pay on your device – or uninstalling the app entirely – should also fix the problem.
