For Aussies living up North, the Perseids are one of the best and most reliable meteor showers of the year. If you forgot about this celestial event this morning, fear not – you still have over a week to catch a glimpse of the shower.
The Perseids are fast, bright meteors that pass Earth’s skies annually between July 17 and August 24. This means you still have over a week to get your butt outside and take a gander.
While it’s true that the shower peaked on the night of August 13, you still should be able to spot plenty of shooting stars tonight if the mood should strike you. The frequency of visible meteors will continue to decline in the days ahead, so we advise not waiting any longer.

As mentioned above, the further north you are, the better your chances of seeing a meteor will be. Those in Darwin, Cairns, Brisbane and far North Queensland are best situated to view the event.
