Happy weekend, and welcome back to 3-Ingredient Happy Hour, the weekly drink column featuring super simple yet delicious libations. This week we’re adding both hydration and a bit of a tropical vibe to our drink by way of coconut water.

Even though, in most cases, coconut water doesn’t really hydrate you any better than plain water, it still makes me feel like I’m being a slightly more health-concious individual, and sometimes manipulating your feelings is half the battle.

I also like the way it tastes when paired with rum, particularly when other fruity, tropical flavours are involved.

Rather than further dilute the rum by adding juice in addition to coconut water, I grabbed a frozen juice concentrate, which was both delicious and very cheap. I went with a pineapple-orange-banana blend, but any feel free to use whatever concentrate you desire; I formally give you permission!

To make this slightly more healthful adult beverage, you will need:

  • 60ml of white rum
  • 60ml of coconut water
  • 2 tablespoons of your favourite frozen juice concentrate

Add all ingredients to a shaker filled with ice and shake until the shaker becomes too cold to shake any more. Strain it into a glass filled with more ice — crushed ice is particularly fun — and let the tropical, hydrating sips imbue you with a sense of wellness. Maybe sign up for a yoga membership you’ll never use; just go where the mood takes you.
