To soften the exile of the single-use plastic bag for customers, Coles and Woolworths are offering shoppers bonus points — be they flybuys or Rewards — for the next few days, as long as you don’t buy either’s reusable bags.
For those who frequent Woolworths, you can look forward to two Rewards points per shopping bag you bring (maximum 30 bags). According to a press release from the chain, this will be supervised by “store teams”:
The team member will … enter the number of bags to ensure customers are allocated the correct points when completing their purchase.
Coles, on the other hand, is keeping things simple. Swipe your flybuys card and don’t buy a reusable bag and you’ll get 30 point (limited to once per day).
However, there’s a major difference between the offers: the Woolworths one is good until December 31, while Coles is cutting customers off on July 17.

In the wake of Woolworths removing single-use plastic bags entirely from its stores last week, the company has backflipped on that decision.”]
Counting today, that’s 72 hours of bonus flybuys goodness. Just a tad underwhelming, compared to the competition, but we’ll see if Woolworths’ longer-term strategy pays off.
