How To Earn And Redeem Flybuys Points On eBay

The budget is coming down tonight and despite the promise of a ‘Santa Claus Scott Morrison’ the results will probably require further tightening of those purse strings. There’s no need to staple your wallet shut just yet though – with eBay and Flybuys announcing a partnership today, allowing you to earn and use your Flybuys points to shop at Australia’s biggest online retailer.

Flybuys and eBay are partnering up, which means that you can both earn points and redeem points to spend with eBay. According to Flybuys stats, around 60 per cent of Australian households use a Flybuys card, while eBay has around 11 million users each month. That means this is a big partnership.

Speaking on the announcement, Julie Nestor, Chief Marketing Officer for eBay declared “it was a no-brainer to partner with flybuys to achieve this as we continue to evolve our own platform in order to stay the number one online retail choice in Australia.”

It does give eBay a pretty big point of difference with Amazon Australia, which continues to make strides into Australia’s online marketplace – and with the eBay’s relatively constant sales centre stage there’s guaranteed to be some decent kickbacks for savvy online shoppers. If you’re already using both services, it seems pointless not to join up.

More than that, Nestor believes small business will benefit from the partnership.

“This partnership opens our small business retailers up to millions of active flybuys members, and on the flip side – creates a simple avenue for the millions of ebay.com.au users to join the flybuys program and collect flybuys points on their regular online eBay spending to redeem on thousands of rewards on offer.”

Here’s how it all shakes out:

  • eBay’s first loyalty rewards program
  • Over 40, 000 online retailers at eBay are participating.
  • For every $2 spent, you collect a point.
  • 80 of the top 100 Australian retailers on the platform are involved
  • Items sold by Woolworths, Dan Murphy’s, Big W, Cellarmasters and WineMarket are excluded
  • Points are awarded within four weeks of date of purchase.
  • In reverse, you can also turn your flybuys points into an eBay voucher, which then allows you to shop across the site and snag even bigger bargains.

If you’ve got a Flybuys account and are keen to start earning points with eBay, just head to the landing page right here.

From there, you can link your eBay accounts and Flybuys together and — that’s it. You don’t need to do anything else, you will just start earning points whenever you make a purchase at an eligible retailer on eBay.

Notably, eBay is offering a chance to earn 10 times the normal rate on your first transaction once you’ve signed up. Worth keeping in mind if you’re going to link up and your first transaction wasn’t going to be all that large.
