It’s easy to shrug off bus travel when you can fly, take trains or rent cars, but bus travel almost always has one distinct advantage: It’s dirt cheap. If you’re travelling to the UK any time soon, check out their bus routes. You can see a sizeable portion of the country for less than $US90 ($117) (not including airfare and lodging).

Wanderu, the app that helps you find cheap bus and train tickets, found a bus travel loop that hits London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds – all for about £60 ($110) round trip. Because it’s a loop, you can start at any city you like then start exploring. Here’s a map of the excursion:
And here’s a breakdown of what each bus fare costs:
- London to Birmingham: £14.05 or $25.64
- Birmingham to Liverpool: £13.70 or $25
- Liverpool to Manchester: £5.47 or $9.98
- Manchester to Leeds: £8.57 or $15.64
- Leeds to London: £17.95 or $32.75
That brings the total to £59.74 ($109), not including your airfare or lodging, of course. The prices they calculated are based on the average coach fares Wanderu could find for each route over a 30-day period, though, so those numbers might fluctuate. Still, if it stays in a similar price range, that’s incredibly cheap for being able to travel between five separate major cities. I’ve had surged-out Uber rides cost more than that!
