Ratehacker: April’s Best Credit Card, Savings Account And Home Loan Deals

In our monthly Ratehacker round-up, Jeremy Cabral from comparison site finder.com.au highlights the latest credit card deals, plus the best savings accounts and home loans.

Credit Cards

Feature: 0% balance transfer

NAB Low Fee Platinum Card: 0% per annum for 25 months on balance transfers 25 months means you have more than two years to pay off your credit card debt without attracting extra interest. The $90 annual fee is also very low for a platinum card. When the 0% deal ends, any balance will start attracting interest at the cash advance rate (currently 21.74%). This offer is only available for applications through finder.com.au.

Feature: Bonus frequent flyer points

American Express Qantas Ultimate Card: 100,000 bonus Qantas Frequent Flyer Points To earn those bonus points, you need to spend $3,000 on eligible purchases in the first three months. The card also includes $450 Qantas travel credit and offers points earn rates of up to 1.5 points per $1 spent, with 2.5 points per $1 spent if you book Qantas flights. Applications for this deal close on 9 April 2018, so get in quick if you’re keen.

Feature: 0% purchase rate

Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card: 0% purchase rate for 14 months As well as offering no interest charges on purchases for the first 14 months provided you pay off the balance each month, there’s an optional 0% balance transfer for six months from your existing card. While there’s an annual fee of $129, you also receive a $129 Virgin Australia gift voucher, effectively covering that cost.

Home Loans

Feature: Variable rate home loan

loans.com.au Essentials Home Loan: 3.54% per annum comparison rate This remains one of the cheapest mortgage offers on the current market. To qualify for this low-rate loan, you’ll need a 20% deposit and must be borrowing for a property you plan to live in. The loan also offers free redraw and extra repayment facilities.

Feature: Fixed rate home loan

Greater Bank Ultimate Home Loan: 4.44% per annum comparison rate fixed for 3 years If you’d prefer the certainty of a fixed-rate loan, this is a competitive offer. One restriction: this loan is only available for the purchase of properties in NSW, Queensland or the ACT.

Savings Accounts

Feature: Bonus interest rate

RaboDirect High Interest Savings Account: 3.05% per annum introductory rate High interest savings accounts aren’t offering spectacular rates right now, with this being one of the few to offer above 3%. The bonus rate applies for four months to balances under $250,000, and then reverts to 1.80%.

Personal Loans

Feature: Risk-based interest rate

Citi Personal Loan Plus: Interest rate from 8.99% This unsecured personal loan offers a customised interest rate based on your risk profile. If you’ve got a good credit history, the low rate of 8.99% is one of the lower options on the market right now. If you’re a higher risk, the rate could range as high as 17.99%. You can borrow up to $75,000 with a 3-, 4- or 5-year term.
