Happy weekend, my friends, and welcome back to 3-Ingredient Happy Hour, the weekly drink column featuring super simple yet delicious libations. Today we’re making an herbaceous yet balanced beverage I found in the iconic Playboy’s Host & Bar Book.

If there is one thing I love in this world, it is an extremely specific vintage cocktail book, and this one is particularly groovy. Not only does it harken back to an unapologetically decadent (albeit sexist) time, but it is absolutely packed with three-ingredient alcoholic beverages, including this stiff little number.
Let’s not mince words: This is a drank. Featuring 30ml each of Yellow Chartreuse and bourbon, it comes in hot and doesn’t mess around. Sparkling water makes it sippable, but it’s best sipped at while wearing something slinky on a night you know you’re taking a taxi home. To make it, you will need:
- 30ml bourbon
- 30ml Yellow Chartreuse
- Sparkling water
Pour the bourbon and Chartreuse into a highball glass filled with ice and give it a stir with a straw or very clean stick. Top it off with sparkling water, give it another gentle stir, and get groovy.
