3-Ingredient Happy Hour: A Delicious Caipirinha

Happy weekend and welcome back to 3-Ingredient Happy Hour, the weekly drink column featuring super simple yet delicious libations. This week we’re making a drink that, to me, fully embodies the easy-breezy spirit of this column: the caipirinha.

Made with cachaça — sugar cane juice liquor — this cocktail, which is built entirely in a lowball, is one of the easiest, brightest beverages one can assemble. It’s tart, strong, and slightly sweet and it also happens to be the national cocktail of Brazil. To make it, you will need:

  • 1/2 a lime, cut into quarters
  • 1 1/2-2 teaspoons of sugar, depending on how sweet you like your booze
  • 60mL cachaça

Add the lime to a lowball and sprinkle the sugar on the wedges. Muddle it up real good with a muddler or wooden spoon until the sugar dissolves in the lime juice, then top with ice, add you cachaça and stir everything around a few times.

Give it a sip, marvel at how easy that was.
