The Commonwealth Games saw records fall and last week, the Villain Of 80s Nintendo, Billy Mitchell, had his Donkey Kong records erased from the record books. Breaking a swimming world record of getting the highest score on Donkey Kong takes forever – why bother with that when you can try and break the World Record for Farthest Water Balloon Throw?
The Guinness World Records have been around since 1955 and though the internet has come and ruined everything we know and love about finding out facts about the universe organically (which should have killed the Records), it still produces a new edition each year. There are some truly remarkable feats of testing human limits contained within, between records that seem mindbogglingly banal.
For instance, Takeru Kobayashi has eight world records for eating – he once ate 50 hot dogs in 12 minutes. Fify! FIVE. ZERO.
On the other hand, the record for putting the most socks on one foot in thirty seconds belongs to Pavol Durdik, with 28.
If you’ve ever fancied yourself as a bit of a competitor, perhaps you want to break a record yourself. What does it mean to you to be the Best In The World?
There’s plenty that you could try and break in one sitting, one afternoon, in the comfort of your own home – or even at your desk at work. Of course, you’re going to have to put in a little effort but here’s 10 records that won’t take quite so long:
