Facebook Lite Is Now Available In Australia

The slimmer version of the Facebook app for Android, Facebook Lite, has been available in select countries since 2015. This however excluded the likes of the US, Australia and the UK. Yesterday, the social networking giant opened the app to the aforementioned nations — including Australia — if you’re keen on the lightweight version.

According to Reuters, Facebook identified that limited internet connectivity isn’t just a problem for developing countries — it feels Facebook Lite could prove beneficial in other locations:

“We’ve seen that even in some developed markets people can have lower connectivity, so we want to make sure everyone has the option to use this app if they want,” the company said.

The app can be found on Google Play and is considerably smaller than the full version, coming in at less than 2MB, compared to 60MB.
