Eventually, we all run out of storage. And we all want to get our hands on our information as fast as possible. In most cases, that combination of requirements means looking for an array of SSDs. But Samsung has upped the ante with a massive 30.72TB SSD - one of the most capacious 2.5" drives ever made.
Samsung is pitching the PM1643 at enterprise and data centre systems where there's a need for massive amounts of fast storage. The drive is made up of 32 1TB NAND flash memory packages with a 12GB/sec SAS interface.
The company os boasting some impressive performance number with read and write speeds of up to 400,000 IOPS and 50,000 IOPS, and sequential read and write speeds of up to 2,100MB/s and 1,700 MB/s, respectively.
Manufacturing on the PM1643 started a few weeks ago and they expect to add a number of other models in the range in smaller capacities ranging from 800GB through to 15.36TB. The drives have a five-year warranty period.
