Trick Kids Into Ringing In The New Year At 8 PM With Netflix Countdowns

It’s the great December 31st parenting qualm: The ball drops at midnight, but your kid needs to be in bed by 8:30. What do you do? Thanks to technology and children’s frail grasp on the concept of time, you can flip on a fake countdown.

For the fourth year in a row, Netflix is bringing back its NYE on-demand countdowns so kids can celebrate the most exciting 10 seconds of the year, and then go to sleep so their parents can get the real party started (or, you know, go to sleep, too).

On New Year’s Eve (or any time from Dec. 26 through Jan. 31), search “New Year’s Eve Countdown” or “Countdown,” and you’ll find a kids’ row featuring nine different short videos. This year’s list includes:

  • True and the Rainbow Kingdom
  • Larva
  • Pororo
  • Beat Bugs
  • Word Party
  • Puffin Rock
  • Skylanders Academy
  • All Hail King Julien
  • Trollhunters

Here’s a preview:

Break out the horns and champagne glasses filled with apple juice. You’re on your way to new year’s zzzs.
