It’s Officially Peak Casual Sex Season

It seems the “summer fling” is a real thing. According to data from the online dating service OkCupid, now’s the time most people are looking for one-night stands.

The report, based on short survey questions from 18 million OkCupid users between 2013 and 2016, suggests there’s a 17 per cent increase on average in people looking for some wham-bam in the early summer.

Also, compared to the rest of the year, there are 33 per cent more people on their service looking for just that. So why summer? OkCupid Data Scientist Dale Markowitz explains it may have to do with summer’s transitory nature:

“More students, vacationers, interns and other travellers join OkCupid during this time. Since these members are not necessarily tied to the place where they’re dating, maybe they are less likely to look for a serious commitment.”

The summer opens up a lot of people’s schedules, and makes quick trysts easier to pursue for all. Plus, the weather is warmer in most places and people show less inhibition when it comes to their public wardrobe. In short, the summertime primes everyone’s environment to have romance on the brain.

And, in case you’re wondering, the winter months are definitely not prime time for the same kind of casual interactions. In fact, OkCupid suggests there’s a 2 per cent increase in people looking for long-term romance during that time period.

So, if you’re looking for some steamy summer lovin’, get your dating profile up to snuff, and start your super sexy exercise routine. There’s no time like the present. Just, you know, be safe and all that.
