I don't usually participate in the capitalist hellscape that is (offline) Black Friday shopping, as it involves getting up early and crowds, both of which I hate. Just the thought of it makes me crave both caffeine and booze, which is what you will find in today's offering.

This beverage, which I have dubbed "The Black Friday", is a play on the caffe corretto, an Italian beverage consisting of espresso and a little bit of liquor, such as grappa, sambuca, or - as we have here - Fernet-Branca. I'm not the hugest fan of warm cocktails, so I swapped the espresso for cold brew - it has more caffeine anyway - and added a bit of simple syrup to temper Fernet's bracing nature.

To make this invigorating, but still very chill beverage, you will need:

  • 90mL cold brew coffee
  • 30mL Fernet Branca
  • 2 teaspoons simple syrup

Combine everything together in shaker filled with ice and shake until chilled and frothy. Strain into a lowball over a giant cube, and sip until you feel like tackling your unique Black Friday challenges, be they angry crowds or slow internet refresh speeds.
