Chrome Web Store Developers Target Of New Phishing Scam

You’d think that programmers would be more savvy about online scams than your average computer user and that’s likely true. Even so, Google felt it wise to contact Web Store developers about a current “phishing campaign” aimed right at them.

In an email to developers (which I myself received), Google states it’s been sent reports of fake emails that purport to be from the Chrome Web Store Team, using the address [email protected].

For reference, the real address is [email protected] and Google recommends sending any suspect scam emails to [email protected].

The email doesn’t elaborate on the purpose of the scam, though it’s a safe bet they’re after passwords and account information.

Google ends the email by encouraging developers to use two-factor authentication and Google’s own Password Alert extension.
