US Easing Back On Laptop Ban

It wasn’t so long ago that representative of the US government were talking about expanding the ban on laptops for flights entering the United States. But it seems the rules are easing, rather than tightening.

Following the implementation of new security measures, Emirates Airlines and Turkish Airlines have both seen the ban lifted from flights coming into the US from Dubai and Instanbul.

The US has pushed for tighter screening and the airlines have toed that line.

The Verge reports the new measures include “further screenings of electronics, more thorough vetting of passengers”.

This is good news for travellers entering the US from those destinations. But I wonder how much these new measures actually make us safer and how much of it is security theatre.
